A man in his twenties was stabbed in the street in Sospel, a village near Menton, in the early hours of Friday, June 13, and taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Emergency services were called to Place de la Cabraia in the centre of the village at around 11.30pm on Thursday night. Eight firefighters and four vehicles attended the scene alongside officers from the gendarmerie.
The victim was transported to hospital, where his condition is reported to have since stabilised.
A suspect has been placed in police custody in connection with the attack. According to initial information, the incident is believed to have arisen from an altercation between two flatmates, both of whom are reported to have mental health difficulties.
The gendarmerie is continuing its investigation.
